ok as some of you may have read I bought a 96 f350 that was a repo. the truck has 191000 miles on it. wondering what you all recommend doing. I figure I will change the oil, trans fluid, t-case fluid, and both diffs. Obviously chaeck all the front end parts also. needs 4wd shifter, tires, and batteries. can I fit 35's without lifting it? As for mods what do you recommend on these, I have not had a obs truck just 99 and newer 7.3's. I am thinking down pipe and exhaust, but which one and where should I get it. I assume the chip to have is the dp tuner the same as my superduty's were. what about air intake? I am also going to add some gauges on the pillar. I will post pics a s soon as I can but was looking for opinions from you all.
If you are going to tow a lot an intercooler is a very very good mod. I just got all my parts to install my 6.0 cooler on mine. Also a bigger tranny cooler is a good idea if you tow with it.
I don't believe you can put any chips in that 1996. You can buy a programmer that works pretty similar. My programmer has three settings... normal, more power and smoke, and lots of power and smoke. I use the middle one and get pretty good mileage and power.
You should really check the antifreeze and make sure the readings are appropriate. Hopefully, the previous owner was on top of that. Go by a CAT store and get the test kit and conditioner.

It won't be a problem running a chip on a 96, and you also have PHP and TW to choose from for custom chips (there are also a bunch more but those are the most popular). As for the tires it really depends on the truck, if the front springs have a good amount of sag then chances are that the tires are going to rubb. But with some good springs there are people on here running 315's with stock height, and i'm pretty sure that 315's are equivilant to 35" tires.
