Hello all. I just bought my first truck. I needed something that could tow a trailer or I could throw some stuff in the bed and go with out messing up the interior of any of my cars. I bought an 85 F-350 with 6.9 Diesel 4 speed 2wd with dually's. It's not in the best of condition, but it runs great.
The big problem I'm having right now is. The cab was changed, which is obvious if you scratch off some of the spray paint. I'm trying to locate the alternate vin locations on the frame. I've searched the forum and have seen quite a few posts about this same thing. I've gotten under the truck and looked and could not find any vin stamps. Does anyone have a photo or drawing of what they look like and where they have found them on their trucks?
Thanks, I don't want to have to part this guy out.
on older trucks, its acceptable to swap engines, cabs, transmissions, etc. juse use the VIN off of the title. its possible that the truck is registered off of the cab, the engine, or the frame. its common for someone to put a new cab on a truck and use that VIN from the cab rather than the old VIN to keep the vehicle history clean. as long as its legally registered, you shouldn't have much to worry about. you'll really have to **** off the cop before they start crawling under your truck to compare VINs
I'm trying to locate the alternate vin locations on the frame.
Why? For curiosity sake or is there a problem with the title? On some models, the vin is stamped on top of the frame rail on the passenger side behind the front tire. Very hard to find and see.
The only problem is the cab is from an f-250 4x4 and has the f-250 vin on it. But the truck is obviously an f-350 2wd, and is titled under the f-350 vin. I just don't like doing things the wrong way. Thanks for the help guys.
As for the interior its not to bad. Ill try and get some pic's up later.
