This morning I've notice that my second fuel tank is leaking. I'm using the first one, but you know. So is there a cheap way to repair the fuel tank, it's only a little hole.
I punched a small hole in one of the tanks on my 76 Chevy while 4 wheeling. I scraped a bar of soap across the hole a few times and it sealed it up. I eventually forgot about it and several years later I remembered it, and it was still sealed up. This is supposed to be a temporary fix, but it lasted all that time.
if your brave you can try a welder LOL i would not suggest it though...go to a truckstop, most of them sell stuff for fixing small holes in fuel tanks, i forgot what its called but it works wonders
Vote me in on the soap repair. A quick fix when out on the road, just go to a service station restroom. Also the pantyhose trick fo a trashed belt. Just make sure she aint in 'em...
JB Weld is the cure, tho. Just make sure the area is clean. And No smoking.
JB Weld is good stuff. I prefer Quiksteel though, it is every bit as tough as JB weld but is easier to mix (just need it in your fingers) and is easier to apply into tight spots.
Here's a thread where I posted a method to repair pin hole leaks in a gas tank. Obviously there where people who posted a response that have never repaired a gas tank using solder.
The purpose of filling the tank with water is to displace the gas fumes remaining in the empty tank. Obviously you want to position the tank so water is not in contact with the area you're going to repair. Using a propane torch will allow a quick repair compared to using a soldering iron.
