I'm all but done installing a 460 in my '78 F250 4X4. What's the best way to vent a crankcase? I have nothing in either valve cover ( grommet wise ) nor do I have an air cleaner. So I believe my options are wide open I just need advise on which way to do it. <!-- / message --> <!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_sig --> <!-- END TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_sig --> <!-- controls -->
Great advice, I'll just add that if you have an open-element air cleaner (as opposed to a stock one) that doesn't have a place to connect the breather hose, you can get filler caps that have the breather filter built in.

On the contrary, amigo, they have a provision on the base to install a fitting for the breather. Especially if you get a good ol' K&N!
I bought one of those $5 air cleaner filters at autozone.
I took my old nasty pcv valve, cut the top off it, clamped on the new filter and shoved it in the left side.
Perfect fit.
Maybe if they're IMPROPERLY maintained. SOME people don't follow K&N's instructions for maintenance. K&N also offers a flow-through 'sock' to shield the element, if going through mud, water, that sort of thing. I have NEVER had a problem w/ ANY of my K&N filters. However, I HAVE seen other people have problems with them & they would have had problems with ANY filter. I'm in no way affiliated w/ K&N, but I have one on EVERY vehicle I own.
I'll second that! Open filter's are superior when it comes to performance and I love them, but they also have to be cleaned/replaced properly or you'll find yourself in a world of trouble. A lot of people think they can install and forget them, but that's not the case.
i was reading the posts above. my pvc goes up into my air filter housing. is that correct? the other side ive been using a filter cap.
im asking because im changing my valvecovers and i want to make sure i get the ventalation right.
someone told me that one side should be going into carb and other into air breather.
