Ok, I have put new belts on the truck and I guess i had them all too tight at first because they were squeeling. Now only the power steering belt squeels but only when I turn to make a hard left. it is like there is a "hitch" halfway through the turn but then it will squeel and go the rest of the way.
the power steering has always been funny in that i have to rev the engine to get the full benifit of power steering.
Do I need to get a new pump, or maybe a new pulley? I'm pretty confused at this point.
Might just have a little bit of something on the belt from the factory, and it might take a little bit to come off with normal use. You could try cleaning off the belt and pulley (with some water), dry them off and see if that helps.
While you have the belt off, grab ahold of the PS pump pulley and see if it has any play in it. Also spin it by hand and listen for any strange noises.
BTW I have an F150 with a 302 and power steering, and I get full PS benefit at low speed, like around 1,000rpm, so your pump might just be worn out...
