Air injection into head
I have a 91 ford 4.9 that makes a thrushing sound from time to time. Form what i could tell evry thing on the exhaust looked good an tight. So i talked to a mechanic and he said the air injection tube on the head could be the problem. I presurized the line and found no major leaks just one nut was a little loose. then i bypassed the valve and ran the air pump straight to the line and the thrushing noise is gone. I know there was a valve there for a reason am I doing any damage. The line to my cat is plugged off not by me (but i may hook it back if the truck makes it till spring) so i don't need to supply air to it

My air tube was leaking. I found a site that sells them for $91 shipped, OE manufacture of it. I replaced it and was problem was fixed until now, the tube blew out 3/4". The nuts were super tight.
