Subscribing to this thread. My power steering pump let go this morning. I will be replacing it tomorrow with pics along the way. Hopefully, I can be of some help.
F350-6, he said in post #1 that the pump was about to go..
I know Joe, but I'm simple minded and always like to start with the cheap stuff. Often when things are about to go, they tend to leak. If the pump is leaking, it's understandable someone might add some power steering fluid to top it off.
You may be right about needing a new pump, but it doesn't hurt to ask the simple questions first.

No need to apologize to me. I've spent plenty of my own money jumping to conclusions in the past.
Since it's pretty difficult to diagnose issues over the internet, I like to start cheap. Besides, you can often learn more about what's really going on by asking questions.

I agree when I used to offer technical assistance over the phone I don't know how many times the "simple" things were overlooked by the customer. Nothing like spending 2 hours on the phone chasing ghosts only to find out something wasn't plugged in. even worse on the net!
Thanks again for the service! These guys will do whatever it takes to help! If I was close I know I would try to help!
