Well to get started I have a 1996 F-350 XLT, 4x4, 5.8l, manual tranny, reg cab, with 205,000 mi on her. The motor needs alot of work. Both exh. manifolds and studs into heads, oil pan, rear crank seal, and driver side head(burnt valve? smokes under load or when engine braking) and no power any more. It has been hard to find another 351 to drop in, but I have a relitivly fresh 30k mi 302 in a 1993 bronco w/manual that would bolt right in. I don't do alot of hauling, just fire wood and snowmobiles in the winter(2000lbs). What would be the pros and cons? Possible? BTW what intake manifold is better, the high truck one or the lower one in the cars? Thanks Chad
only things i can think of as far as cons go is less cubic inches, youve already mentioned the intake, if you have stock exhaust your Y pipe will have to be modded. everything else is identical on both engines.
I did do a little research and found that I would be only losing 5 hp, 210 to 205, and my torque will go from 325 to 275. That is new specs though. My other question is what were the differences between the taller and shorter upper pleniums?
not sure about the plenums other than people around here always want the explorer intakes and heads. i know theres something special about them but cant tell you what it is.
No the published specs don't tell the whole story, the 5.8 is close to 100ft/lb stronger than the 5.0 below 2000rpm. That said if the truck has gearing(4.10) then the 5.0 will be sufficient, use the HO intake for a broader powerband than the truck intake.
My old 94 f150 with the 5.0 seemed to have a ton more ***** than my 350 with the 5.8. Besides the motor, i will have to change the ecm and engine wiring harness?
