Welding

I need to do some welding on my truck bed. If I take the battery loose will it damage the electronics?
Thank You!

There is still a possibility. All of the electronics will still be grounded to the frame. In no way am I a professional welder, but I'd have no worries about doing welding on the bed. Just keep your ground close, and make sure it is always good.

any time you weld on a vehicle always remove both battery cables just as a precaution. if you do that and get a good ground with ur ground clamp you shouldnt have any problems with the electronics.

Ford says that ALL electronic modules must be disconnected from the harnesses as well as the battery cables before welding on any part of the vehicle. Disconnecting the battery does not protect the modules from the voltages produced while arc welding.

At the previous dealership I worked for, I worked on several vehicles over the years that were fried by body shops, including our own. Electronics aren't cheap these days, and many of the modules need to be programmed by the dealership when they are replaced, which will add even more cost.

On the other hand, I've seen people weld on vehicles without disconnecting anything and no damage was done.

Just offering an additional viewpoint.

YMMV

I have heard that you should disconnect the battery cables, but I have welded a couple of times and had no problems. Just keep the ground clamp close to your work.
