Hi all,
My truck in sig. has a sun roof leak on the drivers side front door A-piller by the wind shield when it rains heavy, it leaks thru the head liner by door molding,by the a-pillar.
How hard is it to drop the head liner to find and fix what could be possible be wrong.
any ideas or suggestions would be great.
Not that hard to drop the liner, but may be hard to find/adjust/fix the sunroof leak!
Start by pullling down the rubber trim around the door and/or unscrewing any trip around the edges of the hLiner - at windshiled, A pillar, sunroof surround.
The hliner is normally held by rods going from side to side and inserting into holes above door openings, or it may be ridgid and held by clips.
thanks, as soon as i can get to it ,i will give it a try,I'll take pics during the process, and if it works out it will rain so i can see where the water is coming in ,and or not draining properly.
My '01 Expedition has developed a similar problem. Water drips off the handle on the windshield pillar by the driver. What I found is there's a molded catch tray above the headliner, under the perimeter of the sun roof, presumably to catch any small leaks. The tray has a hole at each side that runs into a rubber tube that goes down the closest pillar next to the windshield. My left side one was plugged up, so water overflows the catch tray onto the headliner, down the pillar and out behind the handle.
The problem is, I can't open up the drain tube. I've tried blowing compressed air down it, to no avail. I also stuck a 12 gauge wire down it 61.5" before it wouldn't go any further. That's down the length of the windshield pillar and a couple feet into the side of the body somewhere. Does anyone know where the drain tube ends or comes out? I can't find any way to try to look, other than perhaps removing the over-wheel plastic molding, but that's a lot of work and I'm not sure I'd be able to see any better behind or above it.
In the meantime, I'll get a new sun roof perimeter molding to try to stop the leak, but I'd sure like to fix the drain path, in case it isn't perfect. Sometimes pine needles or other debris gets caught between the sun roof molding and the metal roof and can cause very slow leaks.
Since I had the truck I never had a problem w/ the sun roof until recently, and figured it was either a clogged or disconnected drain tube . I've been working a lot of ot and haven't had time to take it apart. But it's deffinitly on my short list.
