1966 clutch linkage question

Someone in the past has modified my clutch Z-bracket (bellcrank) on my '66 F100, and I am left with a Z-bracket that has only 2 drilled holes. One for the clutch link from pedal that I can understand, and one on the other side that operates the clutch fork. Problem is, the clutch adjusting rod has a D-shaped hole that does not match that round hole in the Z-bracket. What part am I missing from the Z-bracket?

Also, there is a spring from clutch fork...where does the other end hook to?

Parts diagram is a little sketchy on showing where the spring goes and the view of the Z-bracket is from the rear outside, where I can't see the area where the D-hole on the adjusting rod fits. My guess is the bracket had something like a D-shaped stud that is missing and probably had a provision to attach the spring as well.

I would appreciate someone clearing this up for me.

Thanks

The original Z bracket on my 65 has a stud that the D shaped hole fits onto. And the spring in the shifter fork hooks behind the little tab on the fulcrum point in the bell housing. Sometimes it can be a real "joy" getting it hooked on there.

There's a hole in the steering gear housing that works for a place to hook the end of the return spring

Thanks, 65F100

I am sure if I saw a complete setup it would make sense.

Does the stud you refer to on the Z-bracket have a shoulder to keep the D-ring end of the clutch adjustment rod from slipping off? Next, I guess the stud would have to be able to rotate in the Z-bracket, since the D shape would not allow the proper movement of the rod unless it worked that way.

I ask because I may have to make a modified type of connection piece on my lathe to bolt on to my Z-bracket since mine has been changed from stock to just having a bolt holding clutch adjustment rod on.

Any further info you might have would be appreciated.

Finding the right pic in the parts catalog can be daunting, as it's out of sequence.

Look here: Illustration Section 75 / Page 25.

Where does the clutch fork spring (7523) hook to?

Look here: Section 75 / Page 21. This pic is for 1969/72, but the spring attaches the same way 1965/79. It does not attach to the steering gearbox!

There are TWO different Z-bars used on 1966 F100/250 2WD's.

C5TZ7528A .. Clutch Equalizer (Z) Bar / Obsolete

Fits: 1965 F100/250 2WD / 1966 F100/250 2WD before serial number 830,001.

C6TZ7528G .. Clutch Equalizer Bar / Obsolete

Fits: 1966 F100/250 2WD from serial number 830,001 / 1967 F100/350.

No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has either one.

Bill,

I only looked at illustration Sec 75 on p 25. The pic on p 21 helps. I will need to check the truck to see if the L-shaped (spring) bracket is there on frame. I am sure it is not, but looks like it could be made.

Seems that there are at least 2 springs with the -7523- number, I still don't know how to determine the prefix and suffix numbers from the parts book.

Probably won't replace clutch equalizer since most of it is still operative, just wanted to find out what WAS there originally, so I can make clutch rod operate better than just leaving the bolt and some fender washers as I found them.

Thanks for the help!

Greg
