Engine Help

I have had a noise that seems to be coming from under the left valve cover. The noise started a couple months ago and has been getting progressively worse. It is a clatter/shatter type noise and is worse when the vehicle is cold or at lower RPM. I hooked it up to an AE scanner and got cylinder failures on #2 and #8. I concluded that one of these injectors must be going bad. I got two new remanufactured injectors and i just finished installing them. Just got back from driving it and the noise is obviously worse than before. I know that it will run funny until i get the air out the system, but this is still the same noise, only louder. I am really stumped and frustrated, does anyone have any ideas for me?

Is their ever an issue with injector timing?

If it is one of the other injectors, how do i diagnose it?

Did you get any other codes like IDM faults or anything when you scanned it?

If you can, test the compression of the cylinders.

It didn't pop any codes and it passed the buzz test. It had pretty high rotational velocity on cylinders #3 and #8, like a little over 3 was an average reading. Been thinking about it tonight, and since the noise is worse it must be because i changed out one of the wrong injectors and either 4 or 6 is faulty and the air in the system makes the noise louder. Otherwise the problem is not with the injectors and i have bigger issues like bent rods or worse. I did hydro-lock it slightly last night, i didnt crank on it a bunch, it locked up right away and i stopped and jerked everything back out and then cranked it a while and got all of the fuel/oil out of the cylinders. After that everything was fine, but what if i had a bent rod and i tweeked it a little more. I am just brainstorming, i don't want ot have to take it somewhere, especially not the dealer. The frustrating part is that it runs, it just sounds like **** and diagnosing it is a b***. Thanks for any help ahead of time guys!!

Have you changed the CPS lately? Seems the gray one will mess with the #3 and #8 injector codes on a few trucks. Did you check all the hold down bolts and rocker bolts?

I have a grey CPS, I went in for the recall right after I bought the truck a couple years ago, I have regretted that mistake ever since. I ordered another grey one and changed them out about three months ago. Sure wish I could find an old black one!! I had already checked and re-torqued everything under the valve covers, I was hoping for a simple fix, at first.
