Just wondering if the factory stereo has pre-amps in the back for a couple of subs and amp. If not, then what kinda stereo is a better way to go with? I have an 01 F250 EC. Thank you for your input!
No preamp but i believe there is a signal wire (blue w/white tracer) could be wrong here but I know there isnt preamp rca's. I have a simple single DIN Alpine unit: Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. - CDA-9886
Second one I've owned and absolutely love it. Coupled with 2 10" rockford p2's in a box under the rear seat (extended cab)
No pre-amp outs at all. IIRC you can buy a converter that you can splice into the wires to convert to RCAs. Not the best quality sound, but it's cheaper than a new head unit.
You can purchase a match maker at walmart for $15 that hooks to your speaker wires. Hook it to the rear speakers so you can fade the bass by changing the fader in the radio. It will work fine for subs. It takes the high level outputs for the speaker and changes it to low level (RCA) for the amp. Be advised, some amps today already have high level inputs in which case you wouldn't even need the match maker.
I just tapped the rear speakers for my amp -- it already had high level inputs. Works like a champ! I used those plastic clip splice things, BTW. Easy-cheesy.
