Has anyone ever put a intake heater on their power stroke? I know Dodge has the grid heater is there a mod to add one to the ford I would think this would be a good thing ..

'99.5 and up already have an Air Intake Heater in the manifold (spider). Most remove it because of its air flow restriction. It is a wire coil that heats up the air to reduce smoke "after" start up and only engages when the temps are low enough.

You have one on the spider. Take your passenger side boot off and look inside. It looks like a curley cue. lol

If you have an early '99, you won't have one. Your profile didn't say which truck you have. It just said 99. Also, you will have an additional relay for the AIH in front of the glow plug relay on the passenger side head.

Since we have GPs, we don't need a grid heater. The AIH is ONLY for white smoke control when idling cold. It does NOTHING for warm-ups. The EBPV will "help", but a lot of us gut that too. I no longer have an AIH or EBPV and don't miss them at all.

What I meant is there a aftermarket mod to put a grid heater on the 7.3l to use that instead of the glow plugs .

No, there is no "mod" like that.

Why would you want to do that?

Do your glow plugs not work? There are fixes for that.

Why would you want to put a restriction in your intake system?

Yeah, it *is* "fine" here. But it's also "fine" in Alaska and Northern Canada. There are several members here in very cold climates with nothing but glow plugs. When it's VERY cold, you might want to wait a little longer than the WTS light. And yes, they stay on longer than WTS light. That just tells you a minimum time to wait. You can wait longer. You can also put your own indicator so you know when they're on. They do stay on after starting, too. I just watch my battery voltage -- I can see when they shut off when the voltage jumps up.

Bren, did you ever try this? I'm interested in this idea myself. It seems like it would be a simple modification.
