Well... I opened the hood today... Been about a month, since I did the glow plugs....
So i quickly noticed oil splatter all over the drivers side head inside the valley of the engine. I am wondering if you think its a turbo pedestal o ring, or what the cause could be? Could it just be the ventilation thing that goes in the intake?
I did not look very hard at all, and I know the truck is due for an oil change. So I will look soon, but any ideas? Its not in the valley, but on the edge of the head, I also see oil on the bellhousing now, but it does not drop, just has a little coating. What are the options on what could be leaking?
I looked at it at lunch today.. and I still dont know where it came from, but there is oil on the bottom side of the turbo outlet (going into the Y pipe) right where the two meet... any ideas?
clean up the oil with some good dry brake clean or carb cleaner and look at the base of all those oil fittings going into the head. this will make a pretty dang big mess.. LoL. check those out. how far up the valley is it???? all 3 divets in the block filled up with oil?????
looks like your ccv is spraying A LOT of oil. look and see if that seal at the turbo and y pipe is good??? hard to tell where there is fresh oil b/c your engine is soooo dirty.. haha. looks like some oil is coming out right there where the turbo meets the intake y pipe.
and I have lost about 3-4 pounds of boost resently... I just figured it was a connection at the gauge, but that would explain it, if that seal is not good...
how do i tigthen up that seal on the Y pipe and turbo?
There is a square oring that fits between the turbo and the y pipe in a groove on the turbo side. They can blow out after time, Ive had that happen before especially when you turn up the boost pressure on an old heated oring. I reused the one you had when I changed your fuel pump, and Im pretty sure it was original they are about $6 at International, and $10 I think at Ford. I blew one recently and it didnt just split it blew out a 1/2" section of the ring causing definate loss in boost and an increase in EGT. sounds like you may have split yours so its still holding some boost but is bleeding it off. That and Id say its worth taking off your ccv and cleaning it out as it may be plugged and bleeding around the connections on it. Also whe I changed your FP I cleaned that whole area real good w/ brake cleaner so that oil residue on the ypipe clamp would make me beleive thats the origin.
there ya go... haha. to make the CCV stop throwing oil into the turbo system do the CCV mod. when you do it make sure to run the line up over the brake booster so any oil that might go up the line doesn't make it out. it will run back down the line into the valve cover again.
Looks like I will be calling up ford today to get an O ring.... I am also going to go to radio shack and get a 10 or 12 ohm resistor to fool my computer into thinking that the EBPV is still attached... And maybe I can get the Glow Plugs thing figured out where I no longer have a code, for NEW glow plugs, new harnesses, new gaskets, everythign...
Do I just ask for a Compressor outlet to Y pipe o ring? Turbo Compressor Outlet to Y-Pipe O-Ring
(Ford) F4TZ-9E436-A (94-99)
Standard O-Ring, #140 will fit
Or I may run into work and see if I cant find a 140 O ring instead...
Ford has one... 5 bucks... I will be picking it up later today, once I am out and about anyway, we got 8 inches last night!!!
I got another one... just now need to find motivation to change it out... I fixed my hubs today already but this 26 inches is not fun to work out side in...
Sorry for the hijack, Ya know Matt you dont have to rub in the fact that you have so much snow out there.... Its really not that nice to us New Englanders that you love to be seeing the white stuff fly lol. We got a dusting to an inch a few weeks ago and now snow is all i can think about. I just wanna throw the sled in the back of the truck and head out to CO now haha
