I've been told if your going to tear into replacing the donuts you might as well replace the whole up-pipes with the bellowed ones. You can replace the donut, yes, but its just a matter of time till they fail again and you'll be doing this again. I'm going to do it once and be done with it forever.
It makes sense that the leak gets worse when warm, due to metal expanding.

I have a little black around my collector, but it's not as bad as Glenn's. I don't think you want to pressurize the intake to 40psi. 20 or so will do it. I built mine with a PVC cap too, but instead of a Schrader, I put in an air nipple (1/4" NPT tap):
