i have 79 ford 150 and i have play in the front shaft of transfer case. it makes a grinding noise when in 4wheel.is there a bearing there and what i can do 2 fix it?
Yes there is a bearing there. You must remove the driveshaft, then the yoke, and then remove the 4 bolts on the aluminum seal retainer. You will expose the bearing and then determine whether or not it has to be replaced.
Be very careful to acknowledge which way the seal retainer is installed. It can fit several different ways, but because of the oiling hole, it should only fit one way. If you rotate it in any way, it will not oil the bearing and the bearing will destroy itself.
