I am going to be getting ready to change the glow plugs here before long because im getting that clicking sound when they are cycling. i have heard that the solid state ones are a better system. What would be some advantages of this and what would be needed to convert them?
IIRC the clicking is the relay working in conjunction with the controller as per normal.
You can get the 7.3 GP system upgrade from Navistar...... there again it will click too.
Here is some old info........
Controller kit......IH
On my 1984 F250, I installed a solid state glow plug controller retrofit kit ( part No. 1809443C96, cost was $ 271 at International Harvester dealer) in January 1995.
The kit came with new everything needed such as, wiring harness, glow plugs, detailed instructions etc.
It has worked flawless, I have lost only one glowplug in 13 years of use.
