I need to replace a u joint on a d44 from a 78 ford 150 what seals do I need to replace or does someone have a exploded veiw so I can order the right parts? So far I think I need-
- inner shaft seal
- outer shaft slinger
- front cover gasket
Is bronco graveyard the best place/price to get these parts?
I wouldn't mess with the inner axle seals unless they leak. It's a big job to replace them. You won't need a pan gasket. The axles slid onto the center section. Make sure to check your spindle bearings.
there was some fluid coming out the axle tube. With the ujoint bad it wobbles a lot. Does that mean I need to change the inner seal?
Oil coming out of tube means you will need to replace inner seal-this requires removal of both side axles, inspection cover, and differential case.Carrier bearing caps are stamped from Dana-be sure to reinstall caps on same side and same way they were removed! Side gear in differential case supports inner end of axle and spindle/needle bearing supports outer end-seal does not support axle.
Thanks for the replies. I already replaced the u-joint and the new seals on the hub side. After looking at the new ones I could probably got by with the old. I checked the fluid and it was full so I will just keep an eye on it before I tear it down again. Pretty easy to change a u-joint. That inner seal sounds fun. I found a diagram on danas website. Lots of good info there. One more question. Does the rubber seal, (block vee)thats what dana calls it, go on with the point facing toward the lock out? Its the smaller seal next to the needle bearings?
