'Tacky' Racing stripe pealed off - tape residue left

Men,

I couldn't stand the racing pin stripes on my newly aquired F350. I scraped pulled them off this afternoon. I tried bug off to get the tape residue to go away but that didn't work. Does anyone have any good suggestions on how to get this to vanish?

Thanks in advance!

Two suggestions:
1 Most auto parts stores carry Adhesive remover, comes in a spray can.

2. Any building supply/ hardware / home improvement store will carry Goo B Gone or a similar product.

Either of these will do the job easily.

I've used Meguiars and 3M's stuff for years with great results. Having said that, if it were me, I'd hit it with some of 3M's "Perfect It III" compound if you have a buffer. My second choice would be doing it by hand with Meguiars #4 and rub until it's blended nicely. Then finish it with Meguiars #7, followed by Meguiars Carnuba wax. Yes, it's hard work, but you'll be rewarded with a perfectly waxed truck, no swirls and nothing will stick to it. Hope this helps, Jim

Ditto to the above. Just wash it off when done and your truck will look as nice as it did before the PO put on those god awful stripes.

Sounds like another trip to Autozone... We'll see how it looks before I wax it. This truck is far from perfect body wise. The previous owner REALLY neglected it. Mechanically I have this thing up to par. Next up is a big dent on the other side and minor touch ups.

i have a sign buissness that i run out of my house, i do alot of trucks, fire depts, village police vehicles ect. and i've tried everything out there. without a doubt this is the best stuff i've used. 3M ADHESIVE REMOVER-citrus base the 3m id no. is 62-4667-4930-6 (its a aerosal can). i sray the adhesive and wait one minute then spray again and wait 30 seconds then i use a plastic squeegee and the adhesive comes right off. i then use denatured alcohol to clean the adhesive remover off. good luck.

The fore mentioned applications will work. However I like to use a decal/adhesive removal wheel. Looks like a grinder wheel make out of a rubber product. You place it in a drill and carefully remove the decal and adhesive.

Good Morning Ed!

morning jon. i have one of those. theres two type that i know of. one looks like a disc and the other looks like a paddle tire. i have the paddle tire style, it wont fit on a regular 4 1/2 dewalt grinder so you have to buy the grinder to go w/ it. the set up was'nt cheap. i think i paid $290 for the grinder. it works good for the really stubborn calerended (sp?) type vinyl. cast vinyl is a better quality.i picked mine up from Sign Making, Sign Supplies, Vinyl Cutters, Sign Cutters, Vinyl Banners, Wide Format Color Printers, Laser Engravers

edit: try this, i guess i paid more than i thought. this one iks only nessary if your doing alot of removal. i have a couple of fleet accounts.

I use De-Solv-It. Works great on anything sticky, it just melts the glue off and has some kind of citrus as the main ingredient, just spray it on wait 30 secs or so and wipe off with a paper towel. It might take 2 or 3 apps., but works great. I'm pretty sure I got it at Wal Mart for about $4. Good luck.
