Just a post to let y'all know that Ford Customer Service (Dealer and Factory) confirm that the mileage computers on the '03 Expy EB's are not intended to be accurate. I have checked mine for about 4000 miles, logging miles driven between fill ups, gallons to fill up, computer indicated mileage and actual mileage. Mine averages over 5% high. On an extended highway trip I got 19.1 mpg when the computer showed 20.3. (That is by far the best mileage i"ve gotten in 7500 miles)
In other words, ignore the mileage computer feature on the '03 EB Expy. It was added for show, not actual use. Seems a shame that Ford chose not to take advantage of today's technology to install a relatively accurate mileage computer at low cost.
CS advice was to "read page 116 of the Owners Manual". No help at all.
Yours was made to give you a warm fuzzy feeling. They are counting on you not actually figuring the milege. Mine is the other way. Mine never says better than 14.2 average, but i have figured up to 18. When it says 14.1 I could be actually getting anywhere from 13-18mpg. I dont use the average because of that. I do use the instant to give me an idea of how Im doning. Its not exact, but its all i have. I too was disapointed.
I wonder if it affects the distance to empty. If it is using that average as its basis for how much further you could go on the remaining fuel, I would think it would also be inaccurate.
I would never trust one of those things to give me anything close to an accurate indication of my fuel mileage or miles to empty. to do so would be folly
