Rear end problems
I have a 2002 ford f350 manual six-speed, dually with a dana 80 rear end and i took the cover off to change the fluid and i noticed that the whole carrier will move about a 1/8 of an inch or so from side to side. I never notice any noise or anything so the bearings or shims must be worn. I'm going to take it apart this weekend to see whats up. Does anyone know what the backlash should be. Thanks for any info. It's probably the bearing behind the ring gear and maybe just loose for some other reason since it is not making noise. I would check the contact patch and go from there without being concerned about the backlash. It looks like you can just get away with adding a shim.
