Hi guys! I have not posted in a while. I have been really busy at work. But I just got to get some opinions about this.
I've always wanted a 6.0. I love the power, the sound and reliability. But, I don't have the that much money to purchase one. So I have found an 03 6.0 F-350 with 116k for $13k. Is that a good deal? Any problems that I will encounter on it?
My current vehicle just broke down on me, and I need to find a new vehicle as my daily driver. Please help guys!
The best advice I can give is get an OASIS on it and see whats been done. Some and I stress some of the the early trucks were problems. I think this was due to the techs not haveing knowledge on these things when they were released. There are several happy and reliable early 6.0 owners out there.
Also check the overall condition of the truck, does it have a 5th wheel hitch on it, does it look like it was rode hard and put away wet? If so I would probably stay away.
As for prices, it all depends on where you are. Used diesels around here are pulling big bucks right now. The dealer I bought mine fron 3 years agao actually offered me more than what I paid for it, I respectfully declined, but if the 08-10's were a little better on fuel I may have considered it. Besides that I have too much money into the mods on my truck to sell and make it worth my while...I think.
Thats a good price. I bought my 04 250 CC 4x4 Lariat with 90k miles for 18k. I looked at several that were 04-06 with upwards of 150k miles that they were asking 25 and 30 for. I dont know if it's just in this area, but these things hold their value something crazy down here in Georgia. I love mine. Been learning on the fly. Before doing anything to it Id suggest doing the 'reliability' upgrades, like the coolant filter. Performance gains can wait.
I don't know where you are in CA, but here in the SoCal area the Powerstrokes hold their value well too. At $13K it is either a good deal or something's wrong with it. Run the OASIS and make sure the title is clean. You might want to consider a 3rd party mechanic (that knows the 6.0L) to inspect it. It will cost around $90-$100, but it could save you thousands in the long run. I paid $20K for 7.3L two years ago with 146K on the odometer.
I would be thorough to make sure you're getting a good deal and not somebody else's problem. Best of luck!
