Okay tonight i was surfing Craigslist and come across a ad for a Dana 60F so i do a search on Google look at a couple of sites talking about the front Dana 60's about the stamp on the webbing on the right side. I assumed that i had a D44HD but i got curious and went and looked and what did i find my front axle is stamped 60F and to clarify Dana 60's were either Kingpin or some came with Ball joints mine are Ball joints okay so is the 60F stamp code for it being a D44HD but if it was then it should be stamped 44.
No Dana 60's came with kinpins, they are found on two wheel drive trucks. They can be found with either ball joints or trunion bearings. Here is a pic of a trunion bearing style in my '76 Crew:

Are you sure it's 60F and not 6CF? if it's 6CF that's the HD44, either way it should have kingpins not ball joints (going on the assumption it would be a 78/79 D60).
To the OP i neglected to see your highboy is a '76 so you're correct your axle would have ball joints (the '73-'75 highboys had kingpins) so that rules out it being a D60 unless it's a late model D60 with ball joints which is highly unlikely.
I'll have to live with the fact it's a D44HD until i get lucky enough to find D60 cheap but i do know that i have the 1 ton hubs on it i did measure them when i first bought it and they are 4 inches across.
Gonna rain on your prade again, but the large lockouts only indicate that you have an external hub design. These large lockouts throw many guys off.
The HD 44 only refers to the axle tube thickness, but these axle are still low pinion axles and share the same axle diameter as the later ones. Nothing too special about them.
Deffinately not 1 ton stuff though.
