Does EGR delete=Higher CP?

A thread on another site is debating wether or not deleting the EGR flow translates to higher cylinder pressures. Some say less exhaust and more air during combustion will result in higher temps and quicker burns, causing the head gaskets to blow. Any thoughts?

No it does not. Egr flow is designed to reduce emissions, that is it. That thought process comes from people believing that the egr valve is used as some sort of boost wastegate but it is not. Will you have higher cyl temps without egr flow? Defintely because you no longer have combusted hydrocarbons recirculating into the cylinder to reduce cyl temps and thus nox emissions. Will slightly increased cylinder temps cause headgasket failures-no. Headgaskets failures come about from poor coolant health, egr cooler/oil cooler related concerns, and overboosting conditions. There is a whole fleet of ambulances in my area that unplugged their egr valves, effectively ending egr flow, due to excessive carbon build up in the intake due to extended idle times and they did not suffer more headgasket failures as a result. And those trucks ran 20 out of 24 hours every day. Just my two cents.
