Bad Tranny/Torque Converter???
So, feeling pretty confident in the reliability of the Bronco I took it about 200 miles away to the mountains this weekend to go hunting. On the highway I noticed a slight vibration. When in town I started noticing that at stop lights it was having a hard time "shifting" down when I came to a complete stop (it would make a clunck sound). It did well on Saturday making some medium steep climbs in mud.
On Sunday, however, I was climbing another hill and I stopped at the top when I tried to go again there was no transmission. I would press the gas and the RPMs would rev up but nothing. I would switch gear R'N'2'1'P and did not feel the tranny engaging any gear. However, if I turned the vehicle OFF (not idling) and waited 2-5 minutes, when I started it back up I COULD get the tranny to engage in any gear R'D'2'1 and go for a short distance (until I let off the gas) and then it would disengage and I would have to shut the truck off and wait 2-5 minutes and do it again. Each subsequent try would result in a shorter distance I was able to travel.
After trailering it home and waiting a day I was able to make it several blocks without it "disengaging" on me.
Sorry, this is so long but I have read about 100 posts and none of the other symptoms seem to be the same as mine. I also changed the MLPS but, that did not help.

It sounds like you have torque converter shudder. Sometimes a fluid change will help that. The fact that you not able to get it to move suggests the tranny may be going out. I'm not a transmission expert, but just sharing what has worked for me in the past.
