Question 350K miles!?!?!?!?!?!

Guys,

It has been a LLLOOONNNGGG time since I have posted on here. But I am in need of some sound advice and I know it can be found here. I am currently in the market to purchase a 00-03 and have found an absolutely AMAZING condition 03 F-250 lariat. The only problem is that the carfax comes back with the mileage right at the 350k mark, and the odometer stopped working so the owner replaced it with another that says 98k. He was up front about the discrepancy. The truck runs great, drives tight and like I said the exterior/interior looks as though it hasn't even been touched. Please help me in deciding whether to purchase or not.

Thanks!!

P.S. Here is a link to some photos of the truck.

Oddly enough, while I was getting my truck inspected today (at an oil change place), one of the techs and I started talking. He was telling me how he loves 7.3s, and would love to get one. He said he's had a few come in with HUGE mileage on them. One had 1.3M, one had 1.2M -- both E350s. He said he also worked on one with 650k on it.

Although those are extreme cases, these things can and do last a LLLOOOOONGG time. However, if it were me, I'd look for one under 100k, unless it's extremely clean and deal was right. That's just me...

$12,400... I know that I can get a 01 with 180k or a 00 with 200k on the ticker for about the same price, but I have been looking for a while and everything I find in that range looks like hell, or has had some accident on the carfax... heck I even ran into one that looked amazing, good miles and price, but when I pulled the carfax it was a total loss vehicle and the owner didnt even know it.... This is by FAR the best looking truck, and if the engine was to last a couple of years more (50k miles for me) I would probably drop in a rebuilt engine and have an amazing truck with 0 miles on the engine.

BTW... what does it cost to have these things rebuilt??

Wow! That sure is a clean looking truck. The drivers seat sure doesn't look like a 350k mile seat. Driver must have been a featherweight or it got re- upholstered.

How can a truck with that many miles look that good? That alone would make me nervous. But then again I am only seeing the pics. Does look like a very nice ride.

I've seen trucks that look so nice, with high miles, How come mine never look that nice? LOL

I've also seen some super high mileage 7.3's. They had their intercooler fins almost completely sealed shut! LOL

Izzy.. Did you look at the pics I posted a link to above??? that should answer whether its clean or not. And that is what I am trying to debate.. Whether or not it is a good deal at the price.

If the engine/tranny are OK that is a good deal.

Make sure the numbers match and it is not a salvage title. That is a good looking truck.

The engine and tranny seem to be fine... And it is not a salvage title.

Your good to go in my opinion. If 7.3's are taken care of they last a long time. Mine has 310 K. Only major work was torque converter for the Auto Transmission-that has been 4 years ago.

My $ .02

Thanks guys.. I guess I was originally trying to ask the question as a "would you buy this", and most everyone I have asked said that they would.. What kind of inspections can I do on the motor to check for problems?
