Have an 87 F-350 flatbed. Pulling engine and replacing with new rebuilt 460. Is it easier to pull the grill and yank the engine and auto trans. all at the same time or is it best just to pull the engine? Also is there anything I should be aware of while doing this transfer? Tips or Tricks or upgrades. I don't want to forget anything or do it again.
Orginal problem was freeze plugs and to get to them had to pull exhaust manifold off, broke bolts in heads, removed heads and they are cracked. Hard to find heads so decided to buy rebuilt engine at machine shop for $1300.00

Hard to find heads for a 460? I'm surprised you aren't tripping over them at the junkyard.
Anyway.. kind of a toss-up. Some like to pull the whole thing, others like to just pull the engine. With a V8 I don't think it would be that hard to just pull the motor.
Well theyre probably all over the Pick a Part type yards but I'm tired of the whole process. The yards that have them pulled have been sitting out in the weather and are rusted beyond repair. Did get one set and it would have cost 400 to replace all the bad guides and seats. Returned them.
Agree with Andym... Just pull the motor. Pulling the grill might make it a little easier but the extra time spent to pull it all apart probably negates the little bit of extra time you'll spend wiggling it out.
