I have an F150, 2006 King Ranch. I was idleing and the truck shut off. It may have been a coiencidence, but the miliage was at exactly 100,000. The truck started again, but it runs rough and it has stopped on me 2 more time in just a few miles. The only maintenance issues I have had is one alternater replacement and regular oil and air filter changes.
I could really use some help before I have to take it to the stealership for a costly bill. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you for any help offered.
When was the last time your fuel filter was replaced? If your listed maintanence is the only thing ever done and your at 100,000 miles, i would definately suspect a clogged fuel filter. Or at least that is a very cheap easy way to start out.
My fault, I forgot to mention that I had changed the fuel filter.
Also, when I am driving, I have no issues. The truck only shuts down when I am idleing at a light, parking, etc. It runs fine when I am going down the highway.
Thanks for the effort though.
sounds like a vacuum hose is off or cracked. Is there any codes popping up to point you in a direction? aka idiot light on? When's the last time you changed the sparks plugs? Sometimes that could be a dirty MAF sensor.
you say you have codes & a CEL. what are the codes? that should be your 1st step in the troubleshooting.
Most Auto Repair Parts stores have free code readers you can borrow. They then print out the codes for you. If you don't have a reader, give them a quick visit
and since you are at 100k, it's time for spark plugs no matter what the problem is that you currently are experiencing. If they have severely worn, that could easily cause the idling problem since the gap could be pretty significant

saying that everytime someone offers up an idea is annoying, and is really going to cut back on who, if anyone wants to help you out.
RGR Tylus. I am going to take it to a local store and get the codes read today. I just do not want to end up on the side of the road enroute. I was hopeing someone might have had a simular problem.
I did not mean to sound like a patronizing carny. I really appreciate everyone who is trying to help me.
no problem. we get people on here occasionally who do that intentionally.
bring back those codes when you get a chance. it's probably something easy like a misfire code, or the throttle body sensor
btw, when is the last time you cleaned your throttle body? I pulled mine off at 22,000 miles and it was absolutely filthy. had to use a greenie and alcohol to get it cleaned out
Hope that fixes it. But don't forget what Tylus said, get those plugs out of there. They will be trouble. Lots of information on here concerning them. If you aren't a shade tree mechanic I'd have it done and pay the bucks. You don't have to have it done at the stealership. Find a good reputable independent garage. Just my humble opinion.
X2 what Oldguy4 says. I'd have the work done at a reputable independent shop if you don't do it yourself. Just as competent or sometimes more competent for less money.
Sounds like your only issue is that it wont idle, is that correct? If thats the case, then you may just have a dirty throttle body. Try that before your start replacing anything.
