I guess what I meant was I wouldn't worry about the mileage as much as I would the maintenance. I'd rather buy one that had 140,000 miles on it and was properly taken care of that one with 100,000 miles that wasn't.
There isn't a concrete answer of course. But I would say this - the answer is the same as for a gas truck. Today's diesel cannot be counted on to last any longer than a gas engine.
I'd think you'd be ok with a truck with over 100k miles on it. Just try to work down the price to leave some budget to do repairs to fix leaks and do the entire maintenance right away.
