Just wondering if the cps is the same from OBS to SD 7.3's. A buddy's been having starting troubles and now she cranks but no start and no tach movement. I lent him my spare, but he hasn't had a chance to try it yet. Just thought I'd ask.
Thanks
They show different part numbers but the same prices and manufactures, I beleive they are the same with the exception of the timing mark indicator is in a different position. Therefore it might not bolt in right but could be used for test purposes.
The OBS uses a different CPS than the SD, the only difference is the metal in the contacts. Just use some dielectric grease to try and prevent dissimilar metal corrosion.
Any one know why there is what lots of people here call a "timing pointer" on the cps? there is no spark timing to be
set the injector timing isnt adjustable. so what gives??? or is it not a pointer at all???
There is a metal piece attacched to the cps that is the timing mark pointer, used in showing the timing on the harmonic balancer just like a gas engine. However unlike a gas engine there is no physical timing adjustment, its all done by the PCM. So assuming you had a computer to link the truck to tell the pcm to adjust the timing, you could take a timing light and verify that it is firing at the proper degree.
