I changed the Fuel filter and cleaned the screen at the bottom of the bowl and cleaned the hole close to the top, but I didn't see any screen. The miss is still there. It seemed to cruise and 65-70 fine, but I haven't been on iterstate yet. I think she needs a new air filter, but waiting on Rift Raft to get back with me on the 6647 kit. It seems to idel rougher now that I changed the fuel filter? I am lost and discoraged. I put a new Vailer clutch, presure plate, through-out bearing, and rebuilt 5-spd to the tune on 2500 +/-. I only gave $2250 for the truck, so I hope I'm still OK. Any advice would be great, I am dealing with 2 vacant rental houses right now and am tied up with them.
For what it's worth, I have drained my filter housing twice in the last couple of weeks. Once to change the filter and once to change the fuel pump. Both times it ran a little rough for several miles afterward even though I filled the housing before I put it back into service. I think maybe it takes a while to purge all the air out. Mine seemed to smooth out after about 20 miles both times. This is my first PSD so I am still learning too.
I like my Misses between 10 and 30 tops, lol I crack myself up! The screen, I thought I read the screen was on the return side so I wouldn't worry about cwapped up injectors (someone correct me if I am wrong please). I would look again, I remember it is not that big. Maybe you missed it on the right. A bad air filter could definitely make it run like cwap can you put a new stock air filter in while you wait? I wouldn't get discouraged, you have dedicated people (and some animals) that will help see you through.
The screen is there to filter "unfiltered fuel" and "air" back to the tank. Air trapped in the fuel system = poor performance. After that little screen there is a tiny little orifice allowing the air to escape back to the main tank. Since you don't have the screen the path back to the tank could be blocked.
That being said I'm certainly no expect in this area.
When I've changed my fuel filter(s) I have never had to fill it and start up is immediate with no notice of poor performance.
In the bottom of the fuel bowl was some crap, almost looked like little pieces of coal(Very Tinny Pieces)? I stuck a small screw driver down to it and it was movable soooo, I taped a large straw to a shop vac and sucked the crap out. The straw and vac worked pretty good! I figured it was better to have the pieces out of the fuel system? Anyway, I drove it about 100 and she cruiesed at 70 Great, but she still a like a starving for fuel miss between 40-50? I am going to order an air filter from rife raft place I guess.
I would suggest removing the FPR entirely this will allow you to see the screen (assuming you still have one) then thoroughly inspect it to look for obstructions. Personally I take a can of compressed air like you use for a computer keyboard and spray through all lines. Removal is fairly simple and straight forward there are two 10mm bolts that hold it to the side of the filter housing, the a few hoses attached that you need to disconnect -(should be attached with hose clamps) Then you pull it away from the side of the filte housing. (be careful there is an o-ring on the tubr that feeds into the filter housing dont lose it.
