93 E40D Trouble
For the last two weeks or so I have been having problems with the transmission slipping while in overdrive. It does it empty and does it while I am pulling a trailer. Yesterday I was pulling a trailer that has an empty weight of 3200 lbs., I was going 70 mph in overdrive, which is about 2300 rpm. The rpm would jump to 2500 and stay there for a while and then drop back to 2300 rpm. I slowed down to 65 mph while the rpm was up to 2500 and the rpm did not lower for about a mile. When this was happening the trans temp shot up from around 170 to 205 degrees. I slowed down to 55-60 mph and it stopped slipping and the trans temp dropped down to 170 degrees.
The trans only has about 12-15K miles on it since the last rebuild, I can't believe that I could have nucked it that fast
Oh, one more thing the OD light on the shifter never flashed once.
Any ideas??

The torque converter clutch is unlocking. Since the OD light didn't flash we have to assume that it is unlocking because the PCM is telling it to unlock. Often that is a problem with the brake light circuit.
It could be a burned out or shorted brake light bulb, a bad brake light switch, or a shorted wire in the brake light circuit.

Another thing I forgot to mention, it shifts much sooner than it used to now. It will shift into overdrive around 40-45 mph while pulling a trailer, before it wouldn't shift until around 55-60 mph, which was great.
