New here - not a current owner but in the market for an excursion. Looking for a 2002-2003 with the 7.3 - man are they getting tougher to find for a decent price!
Anyway - it is time to upgrade - currently a 98 GMC suburban owner and while that was fine for a while, I flat tow my 79 Jeep CJ7 with 35" swampers (soon getting 1 ton axles and moving to 39s!!). This is not ideal on the 1/2 ton suburban.
And the number one reason for the "upgrade"........HAVING IDENTICAL TWINS!!!!
Yes, the wife is due in mid-March. I figure this will be the best all around vehicle and meet my towing needs - not that my CJ is any great shakes in terms of size, but I want the piece of mind that nothing will happen to the tow rig and it will fit all the family stuff inside!
Looking for stock or max 4" lift with 315s - that is probably all I can get away with before the wife puts an end to it....
I have already learned a lot just reading - now it is a matter of finding one! So if anyone has any leads....
you didn't say where you were located. there is a car lot in elizabethton tn that has two or three EX's. they don't have a web site (i stopped and asked). good hunting
I can't offer any help on the vehicle search but congrats on the twins! Mine will be two in March! You are in for a lot of fun (and hard work). The Ex is the perfect vehicle for a growing family. After hauling the babies and towing the trailer with my Xterra for the first year I bought an Ex. I shopped for three months before I found the one that I wanted. They are out there, you need to be ready to make the commitment when they show up for sale. Good luck with the babies and the Ex. Drop me a PM if you want any twins advice
Thanks for the congrats. These will be our first kids - yikes!! I just might hit you up for advice!
It is a shame the 6.0 is such a nightmare - lots of good looking excursions in 2004 and 2005 for sale....
I guess I should retract my statement on the 6.0 - I do not have personal experience with it so I should keep my mouth shut - I apologize.
I guess with all the "talk" about the 6.0 problems - kind of puts a big fear for a newbie to get one. "most" people recommend the 7.3 but I am sure there are a lot of satisfied 6.0 owners out there.....

I have the 6.0 and it never left me stranded. I have had some issues but all were taken care of under warranty and it has been trouble free for the last 2 years. Most of the stuff were small items. Nothing major.
I bought our Excursion shortly after our twins were born. Our oldest child at the time was 3 and in a booster seat, so cramming them all into the back seat of my wife's F150 supercrew or even my F350 crewcab was just too much. Good luck with the twins and your search, you'll love the Excursion, regardless of which powerplant you decide on. Just make sure you get an oasis report on it first.
