E99's have smaller injectors, different intake spyder and IC pipes. A smaller turbo and a 15# HPOP(vs. 17#HPOP on late 99's. Also no air intake heater (AIH) or it's corresponding relay.

These were put on the first year to meet strict emissions requirements via EPA regulations.

there may be other differences I'm forgetting but these are the big ones.

Also welcome to FTE!

HPOP = high pressure oil pump. The 7.3 engine uses oil pressure to inject fuel into the cylinder.

What exactly is stage 2??

Most ppl will go w/ a 17# HPOP and then shop around for the remaining parts.

What exactly are your goals/plans for this truck and I can better answer your question.

Well to start I overhauled the trucks body and susp with 225k on the truck with a 6 Spd.trans I Have opened up the intake and exhaust and added a boost elimination harness to prevent the co
outer to fall into safe mode. and a back presser sensor bypass chip to the truck. A just bought a edge powerchip with juice box. Not yet installed bu that will be my pyrometer and boost guage as well. I. Guess I want to have a relyable truck with the added snap. What is the difference with my intercooler pipes. And the 99.6?

I beleive the IC pipes are just bent different b/c of the differenct intake spyders.

I would say make sure you have EGT's and boost to monitor w/ your edge. Then I would say go w/ a DP Tuner for a chip. Jody's tunes are gonna be so much better than edge stuff.

Give clay at riffraffdiesel.com a shout.. and he will set you up and take care of you..

any questions just throw them out

Early 99 has a wicked wheel in it from the factory.

the early 99 has 110v IDM..late 99 has a 120v

The early99 has 120cc(AB code) injectors and the late99-03 has 140cc(AD code) injectors.

The early99 has 2" intake runners. The late99-03 has 3" intake runners.

The early99 has a 15* swash plate HPOP. The late99-03 has a 17* swash plate HPOP.

The early99 has one glow plug relay. The late99-03 has one glow plug relay and one air intake heater relay side by side. Both relays are on the passenger side valve cover toward the front of the truck.

The early99 has a totally different air filter that is not inter changeable with the late99-03. But you can put the late99 air cleaner assembly in the early99 truck. The only three aftermarket air filters that work on the early99 are the AFE stage 2, the AIS and the KWIKK 6637.

The early99 track rod has smaller mounting bolts than the late99-03.

The early99 has shallower rotors than the late99-03.

The early99 has shorter hub-bearings than the late99-03.

The early99 front axle U bolts are square where they go over the spring pack. The late99 U bolts are round.

The early99 has a different pitman arm than the late99-03.

The early99 does not have the AIH like the late99-03.

The early99 does not have the automatic transmission fluid cooler in the radiator.

The early99 has no indicator light showing that "cruise" is on. Late99-03 has a cruise light that will come on when you set the cruise control. The early99 truck has the light in the dash already. A newer PCM(Yes it will plug in and will run better too) must be used to make the cruise light illuminate. It is a green light on the right side edge, half way up.

every thing that is painted orange (on the left) are 99.5-03...non painted (on the right)is early 99

the turbo on the left is a 99.5-03 turbo.it has the wicked wheel in it..

these are early 99 plenums. the 99.5-03 plenums are wider, taller and have a 3" hole for the boots..early 99 are 2"

best pic i have for a 99.5-03 plenums... sorry

I am looking at a 99 no cruise indicator unless it is burned out. likely I assume it is a early 99, should I stay away from this truck or is it a good truck still event hough they made all the changes mid 99?

There isn't any reason not to buy it just because it is an early 99. If you have any early 99 questions give me a call, I swapped my Early 99 over to late and can talk over what it takes and the differences.
