It's been awhile since I've been here. I remember last time there were alot more posts in the 4.2 forum... Not sure what happened. Anyways,
I have a '99 F150 with the 4.2L, auto tranny, and an open differential. Starting in the spring, I'm gonna need to tow my racecar on a weekly basis. I've thought about just selling my truck and buying something bigger, but i love this truck too much. Any advice on the upgrades I should do to get it ready to pull???
Hey man,
I would recommend getting a tranny temperature guage. I got the scanguage II and it allows me to monitor a lot of different things. How much does your car weigh? Do you have any mods to date....bigger tires etc? There is not too much that you can do to these engines, but if you give us specs maybe we could help you out a little bit. Just for your info I have done the intake, exhaust, custom tuning....and a few other things, all of which did not make that big of difference but I believe it helped. Get back to us with the specs of your truck and the trailer and maybe we could help you out.

Jstn, nice truck, I looked at your gallery, very sweet!
Thanks I appreciate it. Seems like us V6ers are few and far between, and based off your signature you are a ture supporter. Good to see ya around these parts.
Yep jstn, they start, run, tow the boat, I'm hoping less trouble to change the spark plugs than the ones that break in half, and seem to be low problem wise. Don't know if they'll live up to the I6, but we'll see.
i'm on my second 4.2 f-150,the 1st was a 1997 ex-cab w/8-foot bed and 5-speed manual. my present 4.2 is a 2006 f-150 w/8-foot bed and 5-speed manual. i sold my 97 at 40,000 miles later the engine went south at about 85,000 miles. my son has a 2000 f-150 an about 85,000 mile the engine went south. have they fixed the problem on the later models??? the ford dealer told me that they have, but i don't trust them.they did not tell me that my transmission had only a 1-year warrenty, because it is a manual??? i checked with ford and they told me it's in the warrenty. i checked nothing about it. i'm old school if i can't shift it i don't buy it. now if you want a stick you have to buy an hd.and only ford and dodge offer sticks on there hd trucks. i'll get off my soap box now and ask my question which is any one make an air intake intake system for the 2006 4.2?????
