I picked up a 1948 Ford Flathead V8 semi diecast kit today and got it put together. After going as far as I can while waiting for a replacement part to come in I started thinking about building a display case to put the 1/6th scale engines in. So far I am looking at a 3ft long x 1ft width by 10in tall case. I am figuring I should be able to easily fit 4 of the engines in there. Would allow me to buy the model T inline 4 cylinder engine kit as well.
My problem is I need opinions though on which route to go. So far I thought a ford engine evolution display would be nice (Model T I4, Flat Head V8, 427 SOHC) but I dont know of any other ford kit I could get of a stock engine. Like wise the two engines I have already are of a 1970 LT1 350 360hp and a 1966 426 Hemi. The other idea I had was to move them closer together get the I4 still but get the 1963 Corvette Fuel Injection 327 as well. Would balance things out somewhat with 2 engines from each make. Issue comes back to there isnt a stock chrysler model of anything other than the 426 Hemi.
So I am stumpped on this and I cant really be flexiable on the size of the display since thats about as big as I can go. So far I have 4" of space between each display base and the bases are to scale. I dont have enough room to squeeze in a 5th engine if I did get a second chevrolet one to balance things out, unless I shrank it down to 3" and that I think would be too close where you cant see the side details. I could possible angle the engines at 45* angle in the case but I cant duplicate that in paint to get an idea of how it would look.
So I am open to opinions if anyone has any. By the way, to throw this out there cant just re arrange them after its built because the wood base will be countersunk for each engine to sit in their place on their display base without mounting it in the case. Another thing for those that might would offer the opinion to miniature lights, I gave that some thought, I have small plastic spot lights in a bought model case shining on a 63 impala and a 49 ford streetmachine. But I will stop rambling on and see what opinions others would have.
Update, I desided to try 2 1/2" spacing between the engines and I can fit a 5th one in. Might be alil too close but might work ok. But layout still is a factor. I already know I will have 2 ford engines, I know I have 1 chevrolet and 1 chrysler engine. I know I can get another chevrolet engine, but no other chrysler engine is offered. So question now is go with a 3rd ford engine or a 2nd chevrolet engine to balance it out. But I am still open to opinions though.
