making oil?

ok guys, a little input please. I just went to change the plugs in my 2000 EX w/ 5.4 gasser. All 4 cylinders [ 5 through 8] on drivers side had at least an inch of oil sitting on top of the spark plug. what gives?

Having trouble understanding what you mean by 1" of oil on top of the plugs. Got pics?

I mean it was as if i poured oil on top of the plug before I removed it.
I put the spark plug socket down the port to the plug and when I removed it, the socket was coverd in fresh engine oil.

leaking valve cover gasket. seen it on 4.6s
