cold weather start

i have a 2002 5.4 4wd with about 150k on it. my problem is in 40 degre or colder i have a starting problem.its intermitant but very anoying. doesnt happen all the time but seems to be when its 40 or colder so i feel i can rule out water in the fuel tank. truck will crank over just fine but it takes about 5 turns of the key at about 5 sec a crank cycle. it has always started but im sure one time it wont and i need to fix this before i get stranded somewhere. any ideas woould be great. thanks guys shawn (02crew)

Have you checked your fuel pressure?

You'll need a fuel pressure tester, hook it inline, and see if the pressure is coming up when you turn the key on, and if its staying up while you're cranking it.

Has the truck thrown any codes?

Depress the gas pedal slightly when you start the truck. If it starts right up, you're IAC is going bad.

IAC = Idle Air Control. Some people have luck cleaning them, but I replaced mine when it went bad. They cost about $100 at the dealer. The parts house ones are cheaper, but I've heard they don't last. It's very easy to replace,
