I have a 77 f-250 and the driver side of the floor is completely rotten, along with a small piece of the kick panel. How difficult is it to replace? I've watched it on the television and read about it in books. Is this something i could easily do at home, with my wire feed? I really some advice, before begining
thank you for your time
I just replaced mine in my 77. it wasn't really that hard to do. I used a body saw, cut-off wheel and you will need a spot weld drill bit. I got my pans from JBG and they were pretty nice, the passenger side was about 1/2" short for some reason. Cut out the section you need replaced and then trace that out on the new pans and add some extra to overlap, unless you are going to do a butt weld. My advice to you is when you weld the new ones in, start on the cab mounts first, this way everything else will match up. I welded the outside first and then half of my holes for the cab mount didn't reach. Here are few pics:
thank you for letting me know.. nice job on the repair by the way. Thank you for letting me know where to get them. I would like to do a butt weld on it, because i'm not gonna put a carpet or a rubber mat back in. May i ask, what type of welder did you use?
Well the drivers side was done with a cheap harbor freight mig welder...not such a good job. I have to go back over it and touch up some spots. It was burning right thought the new floor pans. I am waiting to get a friends Hobart mig welder to do the passenger side. Just make sure you do a lot of double checking yourself when you make your cuts. I left too much extra material on the first cut and had to do it all over again. It was worth it to be safe than sorry! Besides, I love to make all that noise and drive the neighbors nuts! LOL
thank you for lettign me know. I bought a cheap one from my work. i think i will just save up for a better welder, just in case.
Did you have to replace a part of the kick panel on the driver side?
No I didn't have to replace any of the kick panels. If your welder has a **** to control the power you might be alright to use it. Mine only has a high and low setting and it sucks!
Great pic's mudder460 posted. Need to install floor pans on 64 passenger car when time permits and bookmarked couple articles may find helpful.
CarCraft and Classic Truck magazine occasionally post 'tech' artciles on their website u may check and see it there's any addtional info. Theres a gread artcile in CarCrafts new issue on body welding and restoration.
thanx mudder ill post pics when i start doing mine for everyone illbe doing alot of other things to the cab to all i know is its gonna be a long winter lol+
i'm gonna order me a Bronco graveyard catalog, and a few others. I tried to get mine floor pan through Dennis Carpenter, but they more than doubled the price of shipping on me. i dealt with them for years and was always quite happy with thier parts, until now
hey im 17 and just got my first truck, its a 77 f100 series. Now my floor pans are completely rotten through, its convenient if my brakes fail because i can literally flintstone as is. but im also driving it to school in the next couple of monthes. so i looked at lmc and they have some pretty cheap floor pans for that year. but i also looked up the bronco graveyard, it didnt have any directly but it had some for the broncos. would they fit or what would you recommend?
