302 oil pan question

I recently traded a 73' Mustang body for a 72' F100 body. I took out the engine(302) and want to put it in the truck, but I'm told the oil pan will hit the crossmember. I can get the old oil pan from the 351W and use it, but I would have to modify it since my dip stick runs through the block. How do I make sure what kinda oil pan will fit before buying or trading one. As of right now I haven't even tried to get the engine set I was just told this by more experienced people.

Also, don't forget to switch the oil pump pickup tube, they are specific as to whether it's a front or rear sump oil pan. The 302 I dropped in my '67 has a rear sump on it.

the Mustang pan will work only issue is the drain plug on the car oil pans is in a diffrent spot so when you change the oil it will make a mess.most older 2 wheel drive Fords had a front sump pan 67-79 4x4 were rear sumps in the 80s they are all rear sumps and will work also.351w pans are different

Welcome to ( FTE )!

Looks like you have allready some real good answers for all the other posters !

Really theres not a " Stock " Oil pan for a 302 that won't fit in your truck , sure the front sump pan

WILL Puke oil all over the crossmember every oil change , but put down cardboard under the

whole crossmember when you change the oil and Wipe Up the mess on the crossmember !

I have had trucks with 302 front sump ,rear sump , double sump , and they all clear without hitting

or rubbing anything ! As already Stated above a ( 351 w ) oil pan does not fit a ( 302 ) ,they are different !

So the 351w oil pan wont work at all? I was told that I could cut out the dip stick for the 351 and weld it up and use my dip stick, but I would have to change everything else. Is there a really any reason to change all this besides the oil dain plug issue?

The ( 351 w ) will NOT fit the ( 302 ) no mater what is done to the dipstick ,at the back of a ( 351 w)

oil pan the rear bolts are spaced ( farther apart ) !

Ok I will just leave the oil pan for now. What if I want to change it what should I look for? I don't really care to clean up oil every time I change it. I mean the whole powertrain is out and I'm planning on doing the Crown Vic. front suspension modification. Will the pan I have now work for that application?
