HELP!! E4OD Problems!

So it was about 40 degrees out today and i went to start my truck after running it all morning here and there. Let it sit for about two hours, jumped in, fired it up and through it in Re-gear and backed out the driveway, put it in drive hit the throttle and hardly moved. Little more throttle and moved barely any more. About half throttle and it creeped up the hill real slow. Stopped and put it in Neutral and let it sit about a minute and tried again....alll was fine. Drove about 10 miles home not a problem. Does thump a little though when slowing and stopping at a light. WHATS WRONG!!?? T-Converter?? THANKS FOR THE HELP IN ADVANCE!

If it was your torque converter, the transmission would not have gone into drive or reverse after the first fail, so thats not your problem.

Most likely an electrical fault.

Something to test next time it happens. This will verify that its not a mechanical or hydraulic problem.

1; Do you have manual 2nd gear in "2" and "1"?

2; Does the OD cancel switch work?

3; Do you have reverse in "R"?

4; Do you have 4th gear in "(D)"? (torque converter unlocked)

The last 2 seem to be confirmed from what you already said.

Check your fuses and transmission control module connector and main power relay.
Then check your electrical connector on the passenger side of the transmission (do not use a screw driver to unplug it. Press the thumb tab in by hand while pulling up on the harness). Verify that the plug is in all the way and that there is no damage to the wires. If that is good, disconnect it and inspect the inside of the connector. Look for signs of oil, dirt, or corrosion. To reconnect the plug, press down until an audible "click" is heard.

Thank You Dave, I will check all of this in the morning and let you know how it all looks. I really hope it is all electrical though. It really felt to me like clutch packs even. I don't really know why but i used to have a 1988 F150 with the AOD and i burned the clutch packs out when i was out messing around in a feild and it wouldnt shift from first. But this is different as it warms up and then runs fine. So let me check on the plug and i'll get back to you. Thanks again!

This looks like the closest post to my question. I have a 1992 F250. It has a four speed auto with OD. vin 2FTHF25H3NCA15734 I want to get the transmission fluid changed. Three places locally all said they were not sure of what fluid. The Ford dealer was clueless.
I think the main reason they are hesitant is the condition of the truck. 30,000 miles. Showroom mint. Never been in the salt, never been in the rain, never even been driven at night. Has been kept in a heated garage since day one if not being driven. You could eat off of the motor and original muffler. Has every option. Driven only by a guy even older then me. New Leer cap and the whole deal.
I doubt very much is has been over 55mph. There is not a stone chip even in the rocker panels (yet). I just got the truck, it has receipts for 32 oil changes since 1992 in the glove box. The Ford hat from the dealer that came with it was still on the dash in its cardboard wrapper. Ashtrays never been used, well you get the idea.
It would be a lot lose this trucks transmission. I just bought a 30ft 5th wheel RV and plan on doing some towing. I have done so much reading on what transmission fluid to use and can't find a definite answer. If anyone knows can they please answer this, or better yet, email me at bay_city8@yahoo.com.
Thanks guys Rich
