Automatic car starter

Who’s got one and what kind is it? It's getting late in the fall and I'm debating on putting one into my FX4 before the snow flies. I’ve had various types, in various vehicles over the years, but I was curious what most of you liked for the ’04-’08 F150?

I have the Ford remote starter. Got it installed prior to taking delivery of my '08 F-150. No problems.

I was thinking of the factory Ford starter, but they're quite pricey compared to a lot of the aftermarket ones I've seen. And like many factory parts sold by Ford after the fact, its more a case of overpriced OEM than higher quality.

The local dealer here wanted something like $500 Canadian just for the Factory starter kit.....and that's without the price of the install factored in. Pretty hard to justify when you can pick up an aftermarket set up for $100-$300 with all the same (if not more) functions?

I've got the Valet Remote Start with Keyless entry. Had it for a couple two or three years now and no problems at all. I had it professionally installed and works like a charm. Oh yeah, and its cheap!

I’ve got the Viper 5701, it’s a great system with more functions then I use, though it’s nice to have the option to expand. It’s got all the range I’ve ever needed, though the 5901 supposedly is better. The only let down is the remotes, they look nice and work well, but they eat batteries and you absolutely have to use the button locking feature or else you’ll be starting your car from your pocket constantly.

2W7Z-19G364-BA $226.42 + 26.66 (for the Securlok kit) = $253.08

Add shipping, exchange rate and taxes/duty and I probably am not saving a hell of a lot of money over what they're asking for them here locally?

I really like the idea of having a "Factory" auto start system, but not for 2-3 times the price of what the aftermarket is offering. Decisions, decisions!!!

I have the Ford remote on my 2004 diesel. It has great range and last long time on batteries. They initially put an aftermarket on the truck thinking I wanted cheaper. It wasn't good at all. Warm up on the glow plugs isn't long, but through three winters in Minneapolis, never gave me problems.

I got one its made by Alert I think. Its nice it has the LCD that tells you the truck is started. I had it installed in January and it finally ate the battery a few weeks ago. Not sure if thats quick or not for the LCD remote. It has good range too. The company I bought it from didnt do the install cause they were booked but another place did it and they did a crappy job I thought. But all in all its a great remote start. I had another one by Audiovox and didnt like it cause it was a single button and didnt tell you if it was started and not very good range.
