Hey guys, I've got a 05 w/ the 5.4L. I've have a fuel maxx chip i go off ebay for a while and wanted to get more performance. I was recommended to port and polish the intake and exhaust. We found out they used abrasive material to do it like gritty sand. So I got with my friend that tunes toyotas and we decided to try it ourselves. We got a bag of sandblasting sand and hooked up into the intake and started the truck. He wanted to let the engine suck in the sand through the intake so it would port it out and then push it out the ehxaust so it would port the exhaust manifold.
I was worried that it might cause problems but he figured it'd be ok. After running the car and letting it suck in sand we got about half way through a 25 lb bag. The check engine light was on and the engine was bucking and kicking and sounding really weird. We stopped and hooked the car back up normal and took off the sand supply. We tried to start it again and it was really hard. Once started it couldn't idle and kept making weird noises. We took it out and drove it and it started to make scraping and knocking noises.
Help! Can anyone tell me what to do! My buddy only does toyotas so he doesn't know much about fords.
Im sorry but you cant even be serious. If thats true your buddy shouldnt be allowed to to tune any kinda truck and you shouldnt be allowed to drive one. Im sorry but what were you thinking the outcome would be to suck sand in your engine?
I ported a dirtbike engine this way once. wait.... I also ported a sled that way too. The dirtback crashed hard into a sand pile, knocking the intake loose and ingesting a big gulp of road sand as the trottle was stcuk open. the sled hit the bottom of the river and ingested silt. both were well ported internally. the pistons were ported. the bearings were ported. the reed cages and petals were ported. ask me how I was able to see all of this "porting".
b.s. I hope.

The op CANT be serious. I dont want to be rude, but come on, seriously???? This is about as funny as the guy on another site who put NOS energy drink in his motorcycle thinking it was some sort of fuel additive. Sad thing is that was true... Yeah, sucking in sand to port and polish manifolds, its gonna do some nice "polishing" to the cylinder walls and destroy everything in its path! Did your buddy try this trick to any of his cars???? Probably not, and i doubt he will. To port and polish the intake and exhaust manifolds, they need to be removed and sent to a qualified machine shop. To the op, dude, find a new engine, yours is toast.
That NOS energy drink was priceless. That was the funniest thing I have ever read. I couldnt stop laughing. But seriously are you being serious or you BS us? Think about it why do you think there is an air filter on vehicles? Its to help prevent stuff other than air from getting sucked in. Man I sure hope your joking. Better start shoping for a new truck or motor.
Well you need to find yourself a new mechanic and he should be fired. Unless his plan was for you to blow your motor and have him take the old one out and put a new one in then he got you
no a diferrent frind told me to my mechanic just helped me
Not to sound like a jerk, but any mechanic worth his salt would know that sucking in any kind of abrasive into an engine is very very stupid. I hope he isn't the one that helps you replace your engine.
