I ordered a stock replacment torque conv and flywheel today. I will be replacing them fri.
My question is, how much trans fluid does the converter hold, or better yet, how much do I pour in the converter before I re-install it.
I have done many GM's but never a Ford, is there anything out of the ordinary that I need to know about?
Thanks
I assume that you will be changing your trans fluid and filter in the pan as well.
I think the converter holds about 5/ qts. I've never filled the converter first. I would install the converter and trans with new filter.
Refill the transmission (7003).
Add 6.2 liters (6.5 quarts) of MERCON® or MERCON® equivalent transmission fluid to the transmission through the fluid filler tube.
Start the engine. Move the transmission range selector lever through all the gear ranges.
Check and adjust the transmission fluid, in 0.24-liter (0.5-pint) increments, to the proper level (cross-hatched area of the fluid level indicator (7A020) ) at normal operating temperature.
Hope this helps
Jeff
You should always put as much fluid in the torque converter (without it running out when upright) before installation. That way you do not have a dry metal on metal startup to damage your expensive repair.

X 2 what UNTAMND said never ever install new torque converter dry. trust me i found out the hard way. its kind of like put oil in your filter before installing it. keep putting it in untill it won't take any more.
