Not trying to hijack your thread Matt, but the truck I'm working on (97f250hd) has a 4" body lift.
It looks like I could pull the pump assembly out without removing the bed.
Here in Subford's pic you can see it at the bottom of the pump assembly. It's also referred to as a strainer.

Does this seem plausible?
You can try, but i think it would be easier to move the bed. You have the locking ring you need to tap out and you'll probably have a hard time angling the pump assembly out of there.
I do not appear to have any pinched fuel lines, and I don't believe I have a check valve. Would that be near the "T" or at the pump itself. I was able to contort myself enough to get a view of the top of the rear tank where the lines enter and I don't think I saw a check valve, just the hose couplings I would guess. Is my next move taking off the bed and pulling the pump out? I'm getting the WD-40 right now because I have a case of "rusty bolts".
Yes the check valve would be at the pump connection.
You will more than likely have to spray those bolts for two or three days.
When you go to take them out have someone stand on the bolt head, sometimes this helps to keep the bolt from turning. If it spins you will have to weld a nut on top of the bolt or cut the head off with a die grinder.
Do not forget to take the fuel filler hoses off of both tanks and unplug the bed before you lift the bed.
Yes the sock is the filter at the bottom of the Fuel Delivery Module.
Put a new 19 gallon tank in mine and new pump, worked all good then about 2 days later the sending unit stopped working. Make sure your connections are good because now i have to take the tank back off.
Is the sending unit part of the new pump that I will install or is it a separate part that I should replace while I have my bed off, provided I can break the bolts loose!

If you get just the FDM (around $150) then you use your old sending float part, you do not take it off.
If you get the whole unit (around $350) from the top of the tank down then yes the sending float part will come with it.
The part at O'Reilly Auto Parts.
Motorcraft - Fuel Sending Switch for 19 Gallon Plastic Tank Aft Axle, Part Number: PS-23;
If the fuel gauge is working then you just need the FDM.
If you want to spend the money go to Ford and buy the whole thing.
Or you can get the whole thing from:

That figures! Well, I'm looking forward to tackling this, sort of. Now I just have to wait for the rain to stop! Thanks to everyone who has helped me out with this so far. I think I have a good idea of what I need to do. I'm most worried about getting those darn bolts broken loose.
