Other than a couple minor details, we got the race car buttoned up this past weekend. The owner will have it at MIR this coming weekend for a test and tune, and again next weekend for the Ford Fever Classic.
I had a '65 Failane about 25 years ago I bought for $100. I worked with the guy I bought if from got it from his dad who brought it out of OK. The car was rust free, solid as can be and the engine ran like a top. Before I bought the car the guy T boned a car that ran a stop light and banged up the front end but it was repairable. The front suspension was another story, it was bad when he bought it and was ready to fall apart. After I bought the car I found it was next to impossible to find front end parts. I ended up parting the car out. The funny thing was I had a guy interested in the rear quarter panels. After I started talking to the guy he described his car as a rust bucket. He wanted buy just to replace his rusty ones. He didn't want the rest of the car but I finally convinced him that it would be easier and cheaper to swap his engine ( I had already sold the engine) into this car. I think I made about $300 on the car, not to bad back then. I always wished I would have kept the Fairlane but at the time I couldn't.
I've been following the progress daily on the photobucket account. Been great watching this build, and see it all come together is plenty of aspiration to get going on mine. Great work!!
Thanks for the comments! Havi, I noticed you had subscribed, hopefully it provides a bit of motivation, I know we all need it at times.
John, the OT in the title indicates off topic, or not really a picture of a truck in this thread. We could say the 4" mufflers are off a PS diesel, or the 460 block was pulled out of a PU, which works best for ya? But I promise when this car is out of the way I'll post more of my 52 F7 when I put the air ride suspension (front and rear) on it........
Nuther ?, what is that round black thing belt sriven off the front of the engine? It looks like there is an alternator under it, and there doesn't appear to have any hoses going to it, just a single electrical wire?
I believe that's a drag-racer style water pump motor there AX,..it's only needed for a couple of minutes at the end of the run,and won't draw that much power..none when racing cos it's not turned on..and less belts to throw at high RPM..low drag, high speed..
Duh, I should have known that. My both brothers have electric water pumps on their drag cars. Theirs are actual pumps tho, and are connected to the heater hose connections, they don't drive the original water pumps, so there are no belts for them.
