Those chinooks are a pretty good deal, the warm wind melts a lot more snow then just one warm day will do. Plus, if conditions are right, that warm air will blow for several days.
Means we don't get stuck with huge piles of snow everywhere, it melts a few times a winter.
Yeah, we don't get the melt all at once in the spring, so flooding's not as bad as some places. Still lots of people get wet when the water rises in the spring. One of the nearby towns is called "High River." You can guess what happens there. Myself, I like houses on hills. I think the river would need to rise a hundred feet before it got me.
Also, weather forecast for today calls for "ice pellets." That could mean a few different things, but none of them are good.
