I know what your meaning. The Japan disaster just seems faraway and distance. Then this hits in the backyard and suddenly things hit you. Loss is not as great as Japan. But you just do not feel the same because it is so far away.
It was like when I witness the death of a young man in an accident. It hit me more than seeing the news than when it is at home.
It's always harder when it hits you personally or in your backyard, yes japan was and will be a long hard road back to recovery, the loss of tens of thousands of people from a single disaster is beyond anything we have had to endure besides maybe hurricanes and tornado's.
Wow. Haven't checked in here for a bit, will more often now. See there's at least 2 albertans posting. I'm sitting here in Calgary at childrens hospital ,this forum takes my mind of things for awhile in the evenings.Slave lake is quite the devastation, can't believe that nobody was killed. The tornadoes in the US is just unreal. At least with the fire they had a little time to evacuate these tornadoes happen so fast. We may live in a deep freeze for 6 months but at least I'm not to worried about my house disapearing in the middle of the night. People in the south probably say we're crazy for living here!
It has been a crazy year. Twisters do happen here, but fortunately not too often. I only missed getting caught in the Edmonton tornado back in '87 by less than 5 minutes. The place I had just left with my semi where I picked up a load of pipe was leveled and a couple of people there were killed. To this day I wonder if it was the guys in the yard that loaded my truck.
