Yup, got evacuated from work three times last week as a precaution and for heath reasons. heavy smoke and a risk of the road being closed. We have around 6 fires still burning in the area. Two are still out of control. They must be getting a handle on things as this is the second day in a row that we woke up with no smoke in town.
I have a thread about the fires in the general off topic forum. A town 2 hours south of us had a forest fire slam right into town. close to half of the town burned to the ground. It is a real mess. There was about 8,000 people homeless. I believe most of those that still had a home to come back to have been allowed to return. We just had a big fund raiser up here for them. The whole thing is heartbreaking to watch. I put some videos in there as well.
This has been an interesting year for wildfires.
Just google "slave lake fire photos" and you'll see some amazing stuff.
The ford dealership in that town was burnt to the ground. Dozens of brand news trucks destroyed. Also the town offices and library if i remember right. Somehow I'm more concerned about all those nice trucks . . . .
I live about 350 miles south of that, no fire danger here. In fact, it looks like it's going to rain on my golf game today.
I just tried to find your postings of the fires your way. No luck. Can you post a link. I had a friend send me 85 pics of the Slave Lkae fire afterwards. I felt more heartbroken for the people than any other disaster around the world. It maybe because this is closer to home than Japan or any other place.

I hear that, until it hits home, nobody knows that feeling!
The Japan thing was and for many years will be one of the worse nightmares to happen. The Slave Lake thing is nothing when compared to it. They have hundreds of thousands of people homeless, close to 30k dead and a large area of land radiated. Pretty much anything else pales in comparison. Don't take this as me trying to make light of Slave Lake as it is a heart breaker. The Japan thing is so large it it hard to comprehend.
